Management by Wandering Around and its Relationship to the Effectiveness of Strategic Decisions at the University of Hafr Al-Batin (A Field Study)

Abstract

The study attempts to highlight the extent of the Impact of Management by Wandering around Practice. Its dimensions: (finding facts, improving communication, motivation, development and creativity, feedback) on the Effectiveness of Strategic Decisions at the University of Hafr Al-Batin. Its dimensions: (determining the strategic position, determining the strategic objectives, Generate the strategic alternative, Choose the strategic alternative, and Effective implementation of the strategic decision) at the University of Hafr Al-Batin, and explore the strength of the links and the depth of communication between the senior administration of the university and its employees, through the use of the descriptive approach, and use the questionnaire as a tool to collect data from the study sample. The number of members of the study sample was 172 members of the university's Faculty staff.
The study reached a set of results, including: the high percentage of Practice of Management by Wandering Around in the University of Hafr Al-Batin, and the awareness of the sample members of the importance of its practice, and the positive of their attitudes towards it; and there was a statistically significant relationship at the level of significance (α = 0.05) between the independent variable (Practice of Management by Wandering Around) and The dependent variable (the effectiveness of strategic decisions) at the University of Hafr Al-Batin; in addition to there was statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α≤0.05) between the responses of the individual of the sample on the degree of relationship between the Practice of Management by Wandering Around and the effectiveness of strategic decisions at the University of Hafr Al-Batin due to some personal and organizational variables: (gender, degree, number of years’ service). The study also recommended that the university administration be urged - with its various departments and units - to apply the studied scientific method for Management by Wandering Around, organizing training courses to develop the capabilities of its employees to practice this method, and encouraging discussion and exchange of opinion between the university administration and faculty members at all administrative levels on any changes, in order to Create an atmosphere of mutual trust between them, the need to involve faculty members and Employees in decision-making, provide them with a clear understanding and a firm conviction of the goals of the university, and the need to organize training courses targeting university administration and faculty members in the field of Management by Wandering Around and the effectiveness of strategic decisions to increase their awareness of their theoretical concepts and practical procedures.
