Total Quality Management’s Role in Consolidating Social Responsibility at Saudi Universities

Abstract

The objective of the present study is to identify the role of Total Quality Management (TQM) in consolidating social responsibility at Saudi universities from the perspective of their academic leaders according to the three following variables: academic specialization, academic rank and job position. To this end, the analytical -survey- descriptive method is used. On the other hand, a couple of tools are employed to verify credibility and consistency: one for TQM (30 paragraphs) and another for social responsibility (30 paragraphs). The sample consists of (175) academic leaders at Saudi universities located in Riyadh in the second semester of the academic year 2018/2019. Upon statistical analysis, the results show that Saudi universities implement TQM with a medium degree, according to the academic leaders. It is also found that Saudi universities practise social responsibility with a high degree, according to the academic leaders. With regard to the implementation of TQM by (a ≥ 0.05), there are differences of statistical indication, which is attributed to the variables of (academic specialization and academic rank) Except for the variable of )job position(. Neither is there a difference of statistical indication by (a ≥ 0.05) for the level of social responsibility practise attributed to the Study variables Except for variable of )job position(. It is also found that there is a connection of statistical indication by (a ≥ 0.05) between how much the TQM dimensions are practised and the level of social responsibility. The conclusion makes several recommendations, most important of which are: the creation of an organizational culture in line with the TQM; more attention by Saudi universities to social responsibility in the university third task.
