Using a Concept Cartoons Strategy for Fourth Grade Elementary Students to Acquire the Cosmic Concepts and Develop their Attitudes towards Science

Abstract

The present research aims to investigate the impact of the use of cartoon concepts strategy in the acquisition of cosmological concepts and the development of a positive attitudes towards science in the fourth grade students. The research sample consisted of (60) male and female students of the fourth grade primary school (30) male and female students at the Bahethat Al-Badia Researcher Primary School as an experimental group, and (30) male and female students in Nasser Primary School as a control group. Both schools belong to the Sohag Educational Administration in Sohag Governorate. The researcher has prepared research materials and tools which contains identifying a list of cosmological concepts, a student's pamphlet (working sheets), a computer software (CD), a teacher's guide, an achievement test of cosmological concepts, and a measure of the attitudes towards science. Using the semi-experimental method, the researcher applied pre applying the research tools to the two groups and then carried out the research experiment by applying the strategy of concepts cartoon to the experimental group and then applied the research tools after the two groups. The results of the research found that there were statistically significant differences at the level (0.05) between the average scores of the control and experimental group students in the test of cosmological concepts, and on the scale of the attitudes towards science in the post-application for the benefit of the experimental group. While there was no correlation between the average scores of students on the study tools for both experimental and control groups.
