Abstract

The current paper has aimed to identify the effect of using the contract learning strategy in teaching technical works to instill some systemic thinking skills and to develop self-esteem among preparatory school students. The current research followed the semi-experimental approach using the two-group experimental design. The research group has included (64) male and female students who were divided into an experimental group which consisted of 32) male and female students, a controlling group consisting of (32) male and female students, and a group of students for the exploratory experiment (n=67) male and female students. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher prepared the following tools and materials: a list of systemmatic thinking skills and three main skills (perception of system relations, analyzing systems, installing systems); a guide for the teacher according to the contracted learning strategy, a booklet of activities and training for students, a systematic thinking test in technical works, and a measure of student self-esteem. The study has come down to the following findings:
The existence of statistically significant differences at the level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in the post application of the systematic thinking test and its dimensions in favor of the experimental group, and the existence of statistically significant differences at the level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre and post applications of the systematic thinking test and its dimensions in favor of the post application. The research recommended the necessity of using the contract learning strategy in teaching technical works to instill some systematic thinking skills and to develop self-esteem among students at different school stages. The research presented some suggestions based on the study findings.
