The effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavioral Counseling on Reducing Parental Maltreatment of Children with Intellectual Disabilities

Abstract

The study aimed at investigating prevalence rates of parental maltreatment of children with intellectual disabilities, Examine the   effectiveness of rational emotive behavioral counseling on reducing parental maltreatment of children with intellectual disabilities.
The total sample of the study consisted of (300) fathers of children with intellectual disabilities, The sample of experimental group consisted of (20) fathers of children with intellectual disabilities, Aged (45-60) years, Mean (52.45), Standard deviation (5.125).
The study used parental maltreatment of children with intellectual disabilities scale prepared by investigator, The Stanford-Binet intelligence scale: Fifth Edition, prepared by Abu El-Nile et al., (2011), The rational emotive behavioral counseling program was applied to the experimental group.
The results of the study demonstrated that: High prevalence rates of parental maltreatment of children with intellectual disabilities, There were significant differences between average grades of the experimental group fathers in pre and post measurement on parental maltreatment of children with intellectual disabilities scale in favor of post measurement. There were no significant differences between average grades of the experimental group fathers on parental maltreatment of children with intellectual disabilities scale
