A Proposed Perception to Reduce Academic Procrastination Among Faculty Members in Assiut University to Improve Their Scientific Productivity

Abstract

The current study aimed to reduce the causes of academic procrastination among faculty members at Assiut University; To improve the level of their scientific research productivity, and to reveal statistically significant differences in the study members’ viewpoints towards the causes of academic procrastination that hinder their scientific research productivity according to the variables (gender, college, degree), and then come up with a proposed conception to reduce these reasons. The descriptive approach and the questionnaire tool that was applied to a random sample of (239) members, representing 63.7% of the faculty members in four faculties: Education, Arts, Veterinary Medicine, and Agriculture.
The study reached that (58.6%) of the faculty members have academic procrastination, and that the most research stages in which the degree of procrastination increases is the stage of “preparation for research”, and that (43.55) % of the study sample members increase the degree of procrastination. academics, and that the reasons for academic procrastination facing scientific research productivity exist to a large extent, as the external causes (obstacles) came in the first order and to a high degree, and “financial reasons” came at the forefront of the external causes that Scientific research productivity faces, followed by the reasons related to the institutions of society, then the reasons related to scientific publishing, then the informatics, and finally the obstacles associated with the university, while the degree of internal causes (obstacles) which is related to academic procrastination came in the second order and to a medium degree. The study also showed that there were statistically significant differences between the average degrees of faculty members in the total at the level of significance of 0.05 in favor of the average degrees of theoretical colleges, and there are differences statistically significant between the average degrees of faculty members in the total questionnaire at the level of significance of 0.05, in favor of the average grades of lecturers, and the presence of statistically significant differences between the average degrees of male and female faculty members in total the questionnaire was at the significance level of 0.05, in favor of the average scores of females. Then the study presented a proposal to reduce the causes of academic procrastination among faculty members at Assiut University; to improve their scientific research productivity level.
