Using Strategy Scientific Stations in Social Studies to Develop Awareness of Natural Hazards among Middle School Students

Abstract

The research sought to identify the effectiveness of the scientific stations strategy in developing awareness of natural disasters among students of the first year of middle school for the academic year 2022. The research sample consisted of (48) male and female students from the first year of middle school, then they were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The research tool, which was represented in the awareness of natural disasters scale with its three aspects (cognitive, emotional and performance), was pre-administered. Then, the experimental group was taught using the strategy of scientific stations, while the control group was taught using the regular teaching method, then the research tool was post-administered.
The results indicated the effectiveness of the scientific stations strategy in developing awareness of natural disasters among first year middle school students. The research provided a host of recommendations, including: training teachers in service to apply the strategy of scientific stations in teaching social studies, training students on the skills of dealing with natural disasters, especially disasters that occur in the local environment, such as earthquakes, floods, fires and storms, in order to protect themselves, their colleagues and their family from the damages of these disasters.
