Mobile applications and their impact on the development of reading skills and reading comprehension for primary school students

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the impact of the use of mobile phone applications in developing the reading skills and reading comprehension for first graders of primary school, The study group was limited to (40) students, The experimental group (20 students) is studying using some mobile applications (Nan and Lili, letters journey, reading and writing application), the control group (20 students) study in traditional way, An achievement test and an observation card were prepared to measure the students’ reading skills and reading comprehension. T-test, Pearson Correlations were used. The results of the study indicated that statistically significant difference at the level (0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group members who used mobile applications, and the control group, which studied in the traditional way in the achievement test and the observation card. For the experimental group, the study recommended employing mobile applications to improve students’ reading skills and reading comprehension and educating teachers about the importance of mobile applications and benefiting from these applications in teaching student, And the existence of a positive correlation between reading skills and reading comprehension skills, and this means that the higher the students’ reading skills, the higher their reading comprehension skills.
