Abstract

The research aimed to diagnose the reality of the scientific research system and its funding sources in Egyptian universities, identify the challenges they face, and propose a set of planning indicators for research chairs as alternative sources of sustainable funding for scientific research in Egyptian universities. The descriptive approach was used due to its suitability to the nature of the research area as well as one of the main methods of strategic planning, which is the environmental analysis method (SWOT analysis). The most important results of the research were the need for Egyptian universities to find alternative sources to finance their scientific research. As a result of weak and often nonexistent funding. Research chairs are considered one of the important methods that have been adopted to contribute to financing scientific research and have spread in many global and regional universities, in addition to developing a vision for planning indicators related to research chairs that can help decision-makers and strategic goal-makers in universities target alternative sources of sustainable funding for research. So, it has a major role in improving the scientific research system, possessing a competitive advantage that makes it a device for change and progression of society within global competitiveness indicators, and providing a stimulating environment for the scientific leadership that Egypt adopts.
