The Effectiveness of a Program Based on Cognitive Flexibility in Developing Levels of Depth of Knowledge and Reducing Language Anxiety Among Non-Native Arabic Learners at Al-Azhar University

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the effectiveness of a program based on cognitive flexibility in enhancing levels of depth of knowledge and reducing language anxiety among non-native Arabic-speaking students at Al-Azhar University. To achieve the research objective, the researchers prepared the research tools, which included (Depth of Knowledge Levels Test – Language Anxiety Scale). Additionally, the research materials were prepared, which included (Study Book in a Program Based on Cognitive Flexibility to Enhance Depth of Knowledge Levels at the Advanced Level) and (Teacher's Guide for Teaching this Program).
The research sample consisted of 28 students from the Sheikh Zayed Center for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers. By applying the research tools to the sample, the following results were obtained:

The effectiveness of the program based on cognitive flexibility in enhancing levels of depth of knowledge (retrieval and reproductionapplication of concepts – strategic thinking – extended thinking).
The effectiveness of the program based on cognitive flexibility in reducing language anxiety in its dimensions (language anxiety in social situations – language anxiety in learning – language anxiety in communication – language isolation).
