The reality of implementation of the specialized tracks system at secondary schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The study aimed to search the reality of the implementation of the tracks system in the secondary school in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from the perspectives of students, parents, teachers and secondary school principals. The study adopted basic interpretive approach, and employed interview for data collection. The sample was purposely selected and  by selecting that consisting of (25) participants (10 students, 5 teachers, 5 principals and 5 parents). The results of the study indicated that the implementation of the tracks system in the secondary stage is characterized by flexibility and clarity guide of its application; it provides multiple tacks for which appropriate with university majors and requirements of the labor market. The tracks system also takes into account students’ interests and needs, and is distinguished by the quality of its academic content and a greater focus on practical and skill-based aspects. On the other hand, the results of study indicated the need to raise awareness among students and their parents about the tracks system, its philosophy, objectives, and its relevance to the students’ academic and professional futures. There is also a need to improve academic advising to help students to understand the relationship between the tracks and university majors in order to choose appropriate track of the system. Additionally, it is important to provide training courses for teachers to enhance their understanding of the nature of the tracks system, the new curricula, and the appropriate teaching methods.
