Metacognitive factors as Predictors of Body Dysmorphic Disorder among University Students

Abstract

Study aimed at identifying the relationship between metacognition and body dysmorphic disorder among university students, and knowing the extent of metacognition contribution in body dysmorphic disorder, in addition knowing the psychological strcture of the highest male and female body dysmorphic disorder cases. The sample of study consisted of (173) Faculty of education of  Minia University students.The tools included: Body Dysmorhpic Disorder scale (prepared by researcher), metacognitive factors scale (Mohamed Elsayed AbdelRahman,2016),clinical interview form and TAT test(Bellak,translated:Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud,2017).Results indicates that:1-There were no  Statistically significant differences between males and females in Metacognitive factors scale,in addition ,there were no Statistically significant differences between males and females in Body Dysmorhpic Disorder(BDD) scale, except unsatisfaying of body subscale was in favor of females. Furthermore There were statistically significant relationship between metacognitive factors and BDD.Metacognitive factors (cognitive confidence and uncontrollability of anxiety) predicted BDDamong the sample.Finally the clinical results coincided with the psychometric results, and the clinical study helped in clarifying the psychological structure for the highest and lowest cases in BDD.
