The degree of administrative governance practice at Umm Al-Qura University "field study

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the degree of practice of administrative governance dimensions at Umm Al-Qura University, and the obstacles of its application from the viewpoint of faculty members, and to identify the differences in their responses according to the study variables.  To achieve the study objectives, the descriptive-analytical approach and adopted the questionnaire as a tool for this study, which was answered by (346) male and female faculty members. The study found several most important results: the applications of administrative governance at the University of Umm Al-Qura in general and in participating in decision-making, administrative transparency, and administrative accountability were (medium).  While the applications of strategic vision, and regulations and laws were (high).  The main obstacles to implementation include the lack of a unit for the governance of the university, the weakness of the university's financial and administrative independence, and the difficulty of activating supervision due to the multiplicity of the university branches and the inflated administrative system.  There were no statistically significant differences found between the mean scores of the responses of the study sample in determining the degree of practicing the dimensions of administrative governance at Umm Al-Qura University due to the gender, the academic degree, and the number of years of experience at the university.  The study concluded with several recommendations aimed at applying the dimensions of administrative governance and reducing the obstacles of its application at Umm Al-Qura University.
