Some variables contributing to the demand for plastic surgeries among ‎female Teacher students at Al -Azhar University

Abstract

The current research aimed at identifying the extent and type of relationship between both self -esteem, Social appearance anxiety, Media impact, Social critique of body image; And the demand for plastic surgeries, and determining the extent of the contribution of these variables in the demand for plastic surgeries, and the disclosure of the differences in the demand for plastic surgeries according to the cultural background (rural - urban), the economic level (low - high), and the academic year (third – fourth)  among  the Participants. The study included a sample of (100) university students in the third and fourth teams at the College of Education Girls in Assiut, and education for girls in Cairo - Al -Azhar University; The ages ranged between (21-22) years old, an average age of (19.82) years, with a standard deviation of (1.336). The researchers have prepared the self -esteem, social criticism of the image of the body, the media impact, the anxiety of social appearance, and the demand for plastic surgeries Scales. The results of the study showed that there is a negative correlation with statistically significance between self -esteem and the degrees of demand for plastic surgeries, and the existence of a positive correlation between both the anxiety of social appearance, Media impact, Social critique of body image and the degrees of demand for plastic surgeries among  the Participants, It was also possible to predict the demand for plastic surgeries with the information of both self -esteem, anxiety of social appearance and the influence of the media and Social critique of body image, and the self -esteem was the most commonly studied variable in prediction and then social criticism of the image According to the cultural background in favor of urban, it was in favor of the Fourth Division according to the academic year and for the high level according to the economic level.
